Iran drawn with South Korea in 2022 World Cup qualification

Iran was drawn with South Korea in the 2022 World Cup qualification in a ceremony draw held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The AFC Asian qualifiers draw has been made as Asia’s top 12 nations discovered their opponents in their quest to seal the spots for the World Cup Qatar 2022.

Based on the draw, Iran, who are one of the Asian top seeds, will line up against South Korea, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates in Group A, Press TV reported.

Meanwhile, Japan, the other Asian top seed, were joined in Group B or what is considered the Group of Death by Australia, Saudi Arabia, China, Vietnam and Oman.

The winners and runners-up will seal their places for the World Cup finals, while the third-placed teams will advance to the Asian playoffs to determine the side that will advance to the intercontinental playoff.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar is scheduled to be played on the following 10 match days: September 2 and 7, October 7 and 12, and November 11 and 16, 2021, as well as January 27 and February 1, 2022, before reaching its climax on March 24 and 29, 2022.
