Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani congratulated leaders of Muslim states in separate messages on the occasion of the Eid Al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice which is one of the most important religious festivity after Eid al-Fitr in Islam.

In his message release on Tuesday, President Rouhani referred to Eid al-Adha as a chapter to manifest pure faith and obedience to God, iranpress.com reported.

He further hoped that all Muslims will be freed from the shackles of evil desires and sacrifice their lives and property for the sake of God and help Muslim brothers and compatriots, with the great mercy of the Almighty.

Eid al-Adha is one of the holiest festivals of Islam celebrated annually around the world. Based on the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha occurs on the 10th day of the lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah and marks the end of the hajj ceremony, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

This year, the occasion falls on Wednesday (July 30) based on the Iranian calendar.

Muslims traditionally mark Eid al-Adha by offering special prayers and slaughtering livestock to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s test of faith.

The occasion honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ismael, as an act of obedience to God’s command. Before Abraham could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead.
