The Asian wrestling powerhouse Iran snatched a gold and a bronze at the freestyle meet of the Cadet World Championships in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, on Tuesday.

The 110kg gold medal came as Iranian sensation Amir-Reza Masoumi gave American finalist James Anthony Mullen a 10-0 licking in less than three minutes.

On his way to the final showdown, the formidable Masoumi had romped past his Polish, Uzbek and Russian rivals 10-0, 10-0 and 5-1, respectively.

The Iranian phenom, son of two-time world gold medalist Fardin Masoumi, talking to IRNA after lifting the title said, “I am just at the start of my career and have to work hard to win titles in other age categories and join the top wrestlers.”

In 65kg, Ali Rezaei conceding a 6-6 defeat in his semifinal bout against Georgia’s Giorgi Gogritchiani thrashed Dyanko Dyankov from Bulgaria 10-0 to win the bronze.

Representing Iran in 51 and 71kg, Ali Khorramdel and Seyyed Hassan Esmaeilnejad fight for gold medals later today.
