Foreign ministers of Iran and India discussed bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in Afghanistan in a telephone conversation on Wednesday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar discussed bilateral ties as well as important regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Wednesday, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

On Monday, Tehran hosted a conference dubbed “Afghanistan, Sustainable Peace and Security,” with the participation of various Afghan and international groups and parties who play an active role in promoting peace in Afghanistan.

Addressing the event, a senior advisor to Iran’s Leader warned against new US plots for Afghanistan as US-led foreign forces are withdrawing from the war-torn country “in humiliation”.

“The US has committed severe crimes and left behind big losses in Afghanistan instead of bringing development, and prosperity and now, the US is leaving the country in humiliation,” said Ali Akbar Velayati, also the secretary-general of the Tehran-based World Assembly of Islamic Awakening.

According to Mehr News Agency, the Indian foreign minister in a tweeted message on Wednesday described his talks with Zarif as “productive”.

"Good to talk to Iranian FM @JZarif. A productive conversation on our ties," Jaishankar Tweeted.

On July 7, the Indian foreign minister visited Tehran to convey a message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raeisi.

The Indian top diplomat also held a meeting with Zarif on the same day, where the two foreign ministers stressed the need to strengthen inter-Afghan dialogue that will result in a comprehensive political partnership in Afghanistan, Mehr News Agency reported.
