Two Iranian weightlifters Ali Hashemi and Ali Davoudi will represent Iran in the Tokyo Olympics competitions, according to the initial list released by Iran's Weightlifting Federation on Friday.

The current edition of Olympic Games would see lower number of weightlifting athletes from around the world since the International Olympic Committee decreased the number of quotas because of several doping scandals.

Iran received two quotas in men’s category and two in women’s. Iranian weightlifters could fill two men’s quotas, but in women’s category only one athlete, Parisa Javanfekrian, has been qualified for the games. However, she later, failed to attend the event because of injury.

Tokyo Olympics will be held in the Japanese capital from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Weightlifting competitions will begin on August 3.

According to the final list released by Iran Weightlifting Federation, Ali Hashemi in the 109kg category and Ali Davoudi in the +109kg category would represent Iran in the Tokyo Olympics men’s competitions.

Moreover, President of Iran's Weightlifting Federation Ali Moradi is to judge at Tokyo Olympics weightlifting competitions in several categories.

This is the first time in Iran’s weightlifting history that an Iranian joined Tokyo Olympics jury to judge weightlifting competitions.
