Iran’s Navy destroyer Sahand and the support vessel Makran arrived in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia on Saturday to take part in an annual parade marking the Russian Navy Day on July 25.
According to Iran’s Ambassador in Moscow Kazem Jalali, the two warships of the Iranian Navy docked at Saint Petersburg to naval parade which is to be held on the Neva River in St. Petersburg.
The naval parade is held in Russia each year to celebrate the 325th anniversary of the Russian fleet formation.
Jalali added that Iran's Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Hossein Khanzadi is also in Saint Petersburg heading a military delegation upon an invitation of the Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu.
The Russian defense minister had earlier said that 54 warships and other military vessels from a number of countries, including Iran, India and Pakistan, will participate in the naval parade.
The Iranian Navy commander will hold separate meetings with his counterparts and senior military officials from other participating countries as well as high-ranking Russian military officials.
