Iran’s Soraya Aqaei kicked off her campaign at badminton contests of the Tokyo Olympics in emphatic style, beating Fathimath Abdul Razzaq of Maldives 2-0 (21-14, 21-7).
“I was full of ambitions for this match and put in all my efforts to claim first victory at the Olympics,” Aqaei said after the victory.
Next for the Iranian in Group G is an encounter against world No. 9, He Bingjiao of China.
“She is the number one in China and it will surely be a tough match. But I’ll be only seeking to deliver my performance. One player will advance from our group and, in sports, anything is possible. I recently experienced a dream [by qualifying for the Olympics] and I just want to carry on with that dream,” the Iranian added.
