The Iranian short film, ‘The Recess,’ written, produced, and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, was nominated to win an award at the Festival internacional de Cine de Calzada de Calatrava in Spain.
The 8th edition of the festival will be held in the Spanish city of Ciudad Real, from August 6 to 21, IRNA reported.
Nikkhah-Azad’s film, which is the only Iranian film at the festival, will be screened at the festival at Calzada de Calatrava on August 12.
‘The Recess’ is nominated for the Jury Prize in the “HIPARQUÍA” section of the festival, which is devoted to short films on the subject of “Gender Violence, Equality, Feminism”.

The short film is the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.
Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.
Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are in the cast.
The short film participated in several film festivals including the 13th edition of the Sofia MENAR Film Festival (SMFF) in Bulgaria.
The film has participated in over 30 international festivals and won many awards including, the Best Short Film Award at the Oxford Film Festival (OxFilm) in Mississippi, the US, the Best Performance Award at the 33rd Living Skies Student Film Festival in Canada, the Best Dramatic Short Film award at the 15th San Francisco Frozen Film Festival, the US.
The main objective of the Spanish festival is to promote the short film as a means of audiovisual expression, and contribute to its recognition and dissemination, as well as to provide an opportunity for filmmakers to display and enhance their works.
