Iran’s weightlifter Ali Davoudi has further boosted Iran’s stance in the Tokyo Olympics, claiming a silver medal in the men’s +109kg category.

While defending champion, Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia, set three world records to retain his title in the heaviest men’s weight-lifting category, Davoudi, came up 2nd, by a vast margin of 47 kilos in total, Press TV reported on Thursday.

He lifted 200kg in the snatch, and 234 in the clean and jerk for a total of 434. Davoudi’s silver enhanced Iran’s ranking in the medals table, as they sit 27th, with two golds, one silver, and one bronze.

In wrestling, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler Mohammadreza Geraei scooped the second gold medal for the country at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday after he outmuscled Ukraine’s Parviz Nasibov by technical superiority (9-1) in the 67kg final for Iran’s second Greco-Roman medal in Tokyo.

“I had dreamed of winning an Olympic medal since the very young age. I’m so glad to have brought joy to Iranian people,” Geraei, 25, said after his triumph.

Another Iranian wrestler, Mohammad-Hadi Saravi, had won a 97kg bronze on the preceding night.
