Iran, Tajikistan discuss expansion of ties

Iran’s new President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi discussed the expansion of Tehran-Dushanbe relations including trade cooperation with Mahmadtohir Zokirzoda, the chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon (Assembly of Representatives) of Tajikistan.

Raeisi said relations between Tehran and Dushanbe are beyond the normal relations and serious steps should be taken to raise the level of these relations by relying on cultural and civilizational closeness, according to president.ir.

He said the development of ties between Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan as three Farsi-speaking countries is of great importance.

Today's insecurity in Afghanistan, which is rooted in foreign interference, is of no benefit to anyone, said Raeisi, adding that Iran and Tajikistan should work more closely together to address this common concern, both bilaterally and internationally.

Speaking in the meeting, Zokirzoda announced the congratulation of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Raeisi on election of Irans new president.

He also stated: "Iran-Tajikistan relations are based on a common religion, language, culture, history and civilization and have great potentials for expansion."

On Thursday, Zokirzoda attended Raeisi's inauguration in Tehran and wished him the best.
