Iran’s Health Ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday that the country’s daily COVID-19 deaths and infections reached 505 and 26,821, respectively, in the past 24 hours.

The statement added the total COVID-19 death toll and infections since the beginning of the outbreak in the country in late February 2020 stand at 112,935 and 5,237,799, respectively.

It added that 7,486 COVID-19 patients are in critical condition, and of the newly-detected cases, 3,638 patients have been hospitalized.

The ministry said 4,481,814 COVID-19 patients have so far either recovered from the disease or have been discharged from hospitals.

It added that so far 32,409,627 COVID vaccines have been administrated and 29,677,880 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in the country.

The Health Ministry added that 246 cities in the country are coded red (very high-risk), while 144 are in the orange zone (high-risk).

The number of the country’s yellow (medium-risk) cities is 58, according to the ministry.

Iran has been grappling with a fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic since a few weeks ago, mainly sparked by the spread of the Indian coronavirus variant, known as Delta, seeing a resurgence in deaths and infections.

Earlier in the day, Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) announced that the 19th consignment of imported COVID-19 vaccines entered the country on Thursday and immediately was delivered to the representatives of the Health Ministry at the Imam Khomeini International Airport.

According to IRCS Chairman Karim Hemmati, the newly-arrived cargo contained five million doses of anti COVID vaccines.

Hemmati said that so far IRCS has imported 30,390,000 doses of COVID vaccines.

He added that so far IRCS has imported Sinopharm vaccines from China. However, he noted, the society planned “to import single-dose vaccines from Europe as well."
