Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian exchanged views with his counterparts from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on issues of mutual interest, including major regional and international developments.

The Iranian top diplomat and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani of Qatar exchanged views during a meeting in Tehran on Thursday.

Referring to the latest developments in Afghanistan, Amir-Abdollahian blamed the United States for the sufferings of the people of Afghanistan, stressing the need to form an inclusive government in the war-torn eastern neighboring state of Iran.

“US is responsible for the sufferings of the people in Afghanistan and the country will only reach stability through formation of an inclusive government with the participation of all Afghan parties,” Amir-Abdollahian said according to the Persian Service of Tasnim News Agency.

The Taliban have taken over Afghanistan following the US abrupt military withdrawal that put an end to a futile two-decade war on the country.

The ill-prepared US pullout threw Afghanistan into chaos, with thousands of people still at Kabul’s international airport racing to flee the country.

Tehran has recommended that Afghan groups should seize the opportunity provided by the foreign troops’ pullout to form an inclusive government and develop amicable relations with neighbors.

The Iranian FM and his Qatari counterpart also exchanged views on promotion of bilateral relations, facilitating visa issuance for and exchange of visits of the businessmen of the two countries’ private sectors.

Amir-Abdollahian and the Qatari FM further discussed convening of Iran-UAE economic commission in the near future as well as the two capitals cooperation on Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Earlier in the day Amir-Abdollahian and his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed discussed Tehran-Abu Dhabi relations in a phone call made by the latter to congratulate the Iranian top diplomat on his appointment as the Islamic Republic’s new foreign minister.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed emphasized on Iran-UAE good-neighborly relation.

Amir-Abdollahian appreciated his Emirati counterpart’s congratulations and emphasized the strong and stable relationship between the two capitals.

He also discussed the latest regional developments with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and underlined the significance of consultations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi over bilateral as well as regional and international issues, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Referring to his recent meeting with the UAE’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed, the Iranian FM said the two countries’ leaders support for promotion of bilateral relations are highly important.
