Iranian cartoonist Alireza Pakdel, who is also an illustrator and designer, was selected as a member of the jury of the 2nd International Organ Donation Cartoon Competition, which is due to be held in Turkey.

The jury members of the festival are prominent cartoonists from Turkey, Italy, Poland, Indonesia, Belgium, and Cyprus, Mehr News Agency wrote.

Pakdel will be accompanied by Dogan Arslan, Ender Merter, Gurbuz Dogan Esioglu, Huseyn Cakmak, Jitet Koestana, Marco De Angelis, Necdet Yilmaz, Pawel Kuczynski, Rudy Ghesens, Seran Caferli, and Alper Ozkan.

The festival’s submission deadline will be October 1. During October 5 to 9, juries will evaluate the submitted cartoons and finally the announcement of the results will be made on October 15.

An award-giving ceremony and exhibition, showcasing the top works, will be from November 3 to 9.

Pakdel has previously received several prestigious international awards and has held several independent exhibitions of his artworks.

Among his prizes are the first prize at the PAPB International Cartoon Festival in Indonesia, the Grand Prix of the World Press Cartoon, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press cartoon contests held in Lisbon, Portugal, the Grand Prize at the International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba in Brazil, the Special Award at the Aydin Dogan International Cartoon Competition in Turkey and the Special Award of the International Cartoon Contest on Ecology and Global Warming “1.5° C” in Russia.

The Turkish competition aims to increase social awareness on organ donation at the national and international levels by making use of the power of art.

Over one million patients around the world and approximately 26,000 patients in Turkey are waiting for a suitable organ to be donated to survive through organ transplantation. It is hoped that more organs can be provided by increasing awareness about organ donation.

From this point of view, it is aimed to create a positive attitude change on organ donation, thanks to the original, creative, and striking works to be designed by the cartoonists, wrote
