Leader honors braveries of 1980s imposed war martyrs, disabled

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message on Thursday said braveries made by martyrs of the imposed war and war disabled have gifted the Iranian people with victory.  

The Leader’s message was issued to mark the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week, starting across the country on September 22, to commemorate memories of eight years of Iranians’ resistance against a war imposed on the country by the foreign-backed Baathist regime of Saddam Hussein of Iraq from 1980-1988.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Martyrs' blood have recorded the Islamic Republic’s rightfulness to the history, according to the Leader’s official website,

The great lesson taught by martyrs is that where there is sincere efforts, there will be victory and dignity, and Iranians will never forget this invaluable lesson, said the Leader.

Shahrivar 31 in the Iranian calendar (September 22 this year) is the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week in Iran when Iranians honor the fallen soldiers and cherish the strength and resistance of the people during the eight years of war which eventually brought to an end through a UN-brokered cease-fire.

The occasion is marked by holding a week-long ceremonies, including military parades and putting on display latest achievements of Iran’s defense industry.

According to official statistics, a total number 225,570 Iranians were martyred and another 574,101 people became disabled during Iraq’s eight years of imposed war against the country.
