Iran to face Kazakhstan for Asian women’s handball bronze

Iran will take on Kazakhstan in Amman, Jordan, on Saturday with the third place of the Asian Women's Handball Championship on the line.

Iran, which was missing head coach Khadijeh Qane’ due to a positive COVID-19 test, was outpowered by the 14-time Asian champion South Korea 46-21 in the semifinal on Thursday.

South Korea will square off against Japan, which beat Kazakhstan 38-24 in the other last-four clash, in the final showpiece later on Saturday.

Iran has already booked its place at the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship, starting December 1 in Spain, as one of the semifinalists of the competition, with the final spot being decided in Saturday’s fifth-place match between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

Iran was beaten 23-20 in the opening match of the Group B fixtures in Amman, before claiming four successive victories over Kuwait (38-11), Palestine (52-9), Jordan (28-22), and Syria (38-19) to progress into the semis as the group runner-up.
