Marufjon Abdurahmonov made the remarks on the sidelines of a visit to Bahman Group, an Iranian car manufacturer in Tehran Province, according to soratpress.ir.
“Following this visit and meeting and consultation with the senior managers of this company, we will try to pave the ground for joint trade cooperation with Iranian carmakers in Tajikistan," the official noted.
Criticizing that the level of annual trade between Tehran and Dushanbe has fallen from $300 million to less than $60 million over the past eight years, he said: "Special attention should be paid to the development of economic relations, and we should see another chapter in the relations and trade relations between the two sides.”
Expanding economic relations between Iran and Tajikistan and increasing the level of trade will be the main priority, and the automobile manufacturing industry can bring a greater share of trade from Tehran-Dushanbe economic relations for both countries.
He stressed that Tajikistan welcomes joint cooperation with Iranian companies, especially in the automotive industry.
Abdurahmonov pointed to the recent visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi to Dushanbe and said the relations between the two countries, which have many linguistic and cultural commonalities, are of great importance.
Upon an official invitation by his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, Raeisi arrived in Dushanbe on September 16 to take part in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit which was held on September 16-17.
Eight documents of cooperation were signed in Tajikistan by cabinet members of Iran and Tajikistan in the presence of Rahmon and Raeisi.
