UNESCO inspectors to visit Iran’s NW Qazvin to register Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai

The head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department in Iran’s northwestern Qazvin Province said that UNESCO inspectors will pay a visit to the province on October 13 to register Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai historical complex.

Alireza Khazaeli said that inspectors are scheduled to inspect the latest situation of the historical complex’s global registration file, which was deferred due to the coronavirus spread, IRNA wrote.

“The provincial body has seriously addressed UNESCO requirements for the monument’s registration.”

The complex is expected to attract a greater amount of international visitors after global registration, he added.

The caravanserai also embraces a handicrafts bazaar with 230 chambers – traditional Iranian stores, which offer various types of Iranian handicrafts.

The 19th-century bazaar of Sa’d al-Saltaneh is located adjacent to the caravanserai of the same name.

In April, the provincial department announced that it seriously pursues efforts to register Sa’d al-Saltaneh caravanserai on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
