Shahid Rajaee Port loading, unloading near 700,000 TEUs

Some 694,450 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of commodities were loaded and unloaded at Shahid Rajaee Port of Hormuzgan, in the south of Iran, during the five months to August 22, announced an official with Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

Farhad Montaser Kouhsari, the PMOs deputy head for ports and economic affairs, said that Shahid Rajaee Port (Irans most equipped and largest container port) accounted for the highest amount (87 percent) of container operation conducted in the ports of country during the five-month period, IRNA reported.

As the official stated, container operation increased 13 percent in the ports of Iran during the first five months of the current Iranian year, compared to the same period of time in the past year.

He has announced that 906,218 TEUs of container goods were unloaded and loaded in the country's ports during March 21-August 22.

Montaser Kouhsari said: "Increasing container operation in the country's ports is one of the most important issues considered by the PMO.”

In this regard, the completion and operation of the third phase of the container terminal of Shahid Rajaee Port is one of the measures that with its operation, the capacity of this port will increase from 6.5 million TEUs to 8.5 million TEUs, he added.

Meanwhile, loading and unloading of goods in the ports of Iran rose 14 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian year, as compared to the same period of the previous year.
