The first round of matches at the new Persian Gulf Pro League season will see Esteghlal take on promoted club Havadar at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on October 19.
The draw for the 2021/22 edition of Iran’s top-flight football action took place on Saturday as 16 teams learned their fate throughout the season, with the full fixtures schedule yet to be released.
Last season’s runner-up Sepahan, looking for a first league title since 2015, will kick off its campaign with a home game against Mes Rafsanjan.
Meanwhile, Persepolis will begin its quest for a record-extending sixth consecutive league trophy with a visit to southern Iran to square off against Foolad Khuzestan.
However, the Tehran-based Reds’ game could still be postponed as a victory over Saudi side Al Hilal on Oct. 16 will mean Yahya Golmohammadi’s men will have to play in the AFC Champions League semifinals on the same day the Iranian league gets underway.
Also on the first day of the league, Tractor, which finished fourth last season, will play away to Amir Qalenoei’s Golgohar Sirjan, while Padideh Mashhad will host Aluminium Arak.
Zob Ahan and Naft Masjed Soleyman will visit San’at Naft Abadan and Paykan respectively, with Fajr Sepasi, back in the league for the first time in seven seasons, playing at Nassaji Mazandaran.
The eagerly-awaited Tehran derby between Persepolis and Esteghlal will come on matchday eight.
Persepolis will then take on Sepahan in the 12th round of the games in Isfahan.
Esteghlal and Sepahan will go head-to-head in Tehran on matchday 10.
