Leader hails Iranian medalists at World Wrestling Championships

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei praised Iranian medalists for their glorious performance at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships currently underway in Oslo, Norway.

“The glorious victories of our wrestling champions have made all Iranians happy, especially the youth. I sincerely thank them,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a message appeared on his official website on Monday.

Iran's Amir-Hossein Zare’ on Monday took the second gold for Team Iran after defeating Geno Petriashvili of Georgia 9-2.

Zare’s triumph ended Iran’s 32-year wait for the world heavyweight gold after late wrestler Alireza Soleimani had last stood atop the winner’s podium in Martigny, Switzerland, in 1989.

It came after Hassan Yazdani bagged the first gold medal of Team Iran after he outmuscled David Taylor of the United States at the fourth time of asking, coming out victorious 6-2 for his third world gold – fifth medal in total.
