Iranians marked the passing anniversary of the Holy Prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and martyrdom anniversary of the 2nd Imam of Shia Muslims Imam Hassan (AS) on Tuesday.
Muslims in Iran and other countries observe the sad occasions annually on the 28th day of the month of Safar (the second month in the lunar Hijri calendar) which fell on October 5 this year.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) died on June 8, 632, at the age of 62, and was buried at al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Mosque of the Prophet) one of the first mosques built by the Prophet of Islam in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
Imam Hassan (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is the second Shia Imam after his father, Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS).
He was poisoned by his wife, Ja'da bint al-Ash'ath.
Iranians mark the sad occasions by holding mourning rituals and attending holy places.
