Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri and Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi exchanged views on Tehran-Islamabad naval cooperation and maritime security in the region in a meeting on Thursday.
The meeting took place on the third day of General Baqeri’s visit to Pakistan where he has so far discussed major issues of mutual interest with senior officials of Iran’s eastern neighboring state including Prime Minister Imran Khan.
General Baqeri and Admiral Amjad Niazi exchanged views on Iran-Pakistan brotherly relations, including the level of cooperation between the navies of the two countries, and also on the maritime security in the region as well as major regional security developments.
According to a statement by Pakistan’s Navy Public Relations office, General Baqeri’s visit to Islamabad will be a step forward to further strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
During his stay in the Pakistani capital, General Baqeri has so far held intensive meetings and consultations with senior Pakistani political and military leaders including Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Reza, and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, respectively.
The Pakistani PM told General Baqeri that Islamabad is committed to further develop relations with Tehran, especially in the border, economic, military and security sectors.
During his meetings with senior Pakistani officials, the Iranian general also discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of military, security, and strategic affairs.
They also reviewed development of security on the common borders of Iran and Pakistan, regional peace and stability, especially the need for consensus for the return of peace and security in Afghanistan
Later on Thursday, General Baqeri and his entourage are to visit Pakistan Army Heavy Weapons Production Complex and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC).
