Iran receives six million doses of COVID-19 vaccine

Iranian Health Ministry received six million more doses of COVID-19 vaccine through Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS).

Head of the IRCS Karim Hemmati said on Thursday with the arrival of the third shipment, containing six million doses of the vaccine, the organization has fulfilled the promise for receiving 18 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in one week, Fars News Agency reported.

We have imported a total number of 70,390,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine since May, he added.

So far, Iran has received over 80 million doses of China’s flagship Sinopharm vaccine to immunize its population against COVID-19. Sinopharm has accounted for nearly 90% of all vaccines imported into Iran since December.

Health Ministry announced on Friday that 47,713,258 Iranians have received the first dose of the vaccine and 22,816,536 people have so far received the second dose, according to IRNA.

Official daily statistics published by the Iran’s Health Ministry indicate that Iran has passed the fifth wave of the pandemic.

The ministry on Friday put the number of COVID-19 fatalities in Iran at 123,695 after 197 more Iranians lost their lives in 24 hours.

It also reported 11,857 new positive cases in the same period.
