Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday strongly rejected as “fabricated” the new allegations made by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev against Iran at the Commonwealth of Independent States’ Summit.

Such accusations are only in line with the interests of the Israeli regime and in order to affect the fraternal relations between the two nations of Iran and Azerbaijan, Khatibzadeh said, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s official website.

Pointing to the thousands of Iranian security forces who have lost their lives in the fight against drug trafficking during the past four decades, Khatibzadeh emphasized Iran’s leading role in the fight against the phenomenon.

Unfortunately, despite the private and positive messages received from Baku in various contacts, Azerbaijan is deliberately making baseless statements which, of course, will be given appropriate answers, the Iranian official said.

Aliyev on Friday accused Iran and Armenia of using Karabakh territory for trafficking illegal drugs for decades.
