Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi expressed appreciation for the countries that cooperated in sending the COVID-19 vaccine to Iran.

“I sincerely appreciate all the countries that have sent the vaccine, especially China, and I believe that such humanitarian cooperation should continue between friendly and regional countries,” Raeisi told a meeting of the country’s National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus on Saturday, IRNA reported.

He also called on the Health Ministry to support the vaccines produced by the country’s producers in order to improve the quality of their vaccines.

On Thursday, the Health Ministry received six million more doses of COVID-19 vaccine through Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS).

Head of the IRCS Karim Hemmati said that with the arrival of the third shipment, containing six million doses of the vaccine, the organization has fulfilled the promise for receiving 18 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in one week.

We have imported a total number of 70,390,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine since May, he added.

So far, Iran has received over 80 million doses of China’s flagship Sinopharm vaccine to immunize its population against COVID-19. Sinopharm has accounted for nearly 90% of all vaccines imported into Iran since December.

The Health Ministry announced on Friday that 47,713,258 Iranians have received the first dose of the vaccine and 22,816,536 people have so far received the second dose, according to IRNA.

Official daily statistics published by Iran’s Health Ministry indicate that Iran has passed the fifth wave of the pandemic.

The ministry on Saturday put the number of COVID-19 fatalities in Iran at 123,876 after 181 more Iranians lost their lives in 24 hours.

It also reported 7,515 new positive cases in the same period.
