Health Ministry reports 199 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours

Iran’s Health Ministry reported 199 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 124,075.

According to statistics, 11,396 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported across the country during the same period, with 1,482 people hospitalized, Tasnim News Agency reported.

More than 5.32 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals, out of a total of 5,784,800 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 4,760 victims of COVID-19 are in critical condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that more than 48.47 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 24.16 million have received the second dosage.

On Thursday, the Health Ministry received six million more doses of COVID-19 vaccine through Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS).

Head of the IRCS, Karim Hemmati, said that with the arrival of the third shipment, containing six million doses of the vaccine, the organization has fulfilled the promise for receiving 18 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in one week.

We have imported a total number of 70,390,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine since May, he added.

So far, Iran has received over 80 million doses of China’s flagship Sinopharm vaccine to immunize its population against COVID-19.

Sinopharm has accounted for nearly 90% of all vaccines imported into Iran since December.
