Compiled from Dispatches

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili said that Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), as an exclusive news agency of the republic, must return to its original authority.

He made the statement during the induction ceremony of IRNA’s new Managing Director Ali Naderi, held at the agency’s headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday.

The minister added that IRNA needs to adapt its services to social media, adding that Naderi has a deep understanding of the new social media and news networks.

IRNA must reach a powerful status, to which the audience would be attracted, Esmaeili noted.

IRNA must be active not only in the Iranian provinces throughout the country, but also in the international media, the minister said.

In his induction ceremony, Naderi said that the agency’s strategy was the same as announced by the administration, i.e., promoting justice, fighting corruption and facilitating people’s livelihoods.

The ceremony was attended by the ministry and agency’s officials including the former IRNA chief, Mohammadreza Norouzpour, and a member of IRNA high council Sepehr Khalaji.

The minister expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the former IRNA chief who was responsible for the agency since June 6, 2020.

In a decree on October 11, Esmaeili appointed Naderi as IRNA’s new managing director.

In his speech, Naderi pointed to IRNA’s long experience since its establishment in 1934, saying that the long experience along with competent human capital was IRNA’s greatest wealth, which makes great accomplishments feasible.

He said there should be some transition to synchronize the agency with the latest developments in technology, including modern social media.

Naderi also touched on the domestic and international capacities of IRNA, noting that this capacity could provide the agency with a top position and restore its status.

The new managing director said that IRNA should help the administration execute its plans to give people hope.

Naderi stated that IRNA was a news agency for all three branches of the government.

Norouzpour said that publishing news items in IRNA requires great attention, for this news agency has its special considerations, compared to other news agencies.
