The president made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of the East and West Azerbaijan provinces in the Iranian Parliament.
"Foreigners in the region are pursuing their own expansionist interests and we will not allow the Zionists to disrupt our relations with our neighbors," President Raeisi stressed, according to IRNA.
He was referring to certain provocations recently made by Israel near Iran’s border with Azerbaijan.
In a phone call on October 13, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told his Azeri counterpart that Tehran and Baku “have enemies that should not be given an opportunity to strain relations between them.” He stressed the need for “removing anxiety through dialogue and cooperation”.
More in his meeting with the Iranian MPs, President Raeisi said Iran is pursuing a policy of good neighborliness, as well as promoting economic and trade relations, and activating border markets. He noted that bartering with neighbors can help develop the country’s economy and promote its relations with the regional countries.
Later in the day, in a separate meeting with a group of exporters on the National Day of Export, President Raeisi said that developing and promoting export with neighboring states is the top priority of his administration.
