The second round of matches at the new Persian Gulf Pro League season saw Esteghlal and Golgoahr Sirjan walk away with away victories over Zob Ahan and Fajr Sepasi respectively.
New French signing Arthur Yamga, in his debut for the Tehran-based Blues, got on the score sheet in the 28th minute and added a second deep into stoppage time as Farhad Majidi’s men beat the host Zob Ahan 2-0 at Isfahan’s Foolad Shahr Stadium.
In Shiraz, Milad Zakipour fired home a 90th-minute winner with a left-footed effort from the edge of the box for a 1-0 win – the second successive victory to the start of the new season – for Amir Qalenoei’s side over newly-promoted Fajr Sepasi.
Monday’s results see Sepahan, Golgohar, and Esteghlal sit atop the table with a perfect record, only separated by goal difference.
Sepahan came out victorious at Naft Masjed Soleyman 3-0 on the preceding night – courtesy of a Sajjad Shahbaz-Zadeh’s double coupled with a Giorgi Gvelesiani’s strike in the first half.
Persepolis, seeking a sixth consecutive title, will have the chance to join the trio on top when playing Nassaji Mazandaran at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Wednesday.
Elsewhere on Monday, Tractor bounced back from a first-day 4-1 hammering by Golgohar and beat San’at Naft Abadan 3-0 at home.
Peyman Babaei opened the account for the Tabriz-based club with nine minutes into the game, before netting a second with four minutes left from normal time. Saman Nariman Jahan rounded off the victory in the 94th minute.
In Tehran, Mohammad-Hossein Fallah and Mojtaba Haqdoust scored in the first half for Paykan’s first win of the season – a 2-0 triumph over new comers Havadar.
Also on Wednesday, Foolad Khuzestan will look to seal first points of the season – after falling to a home 3-1 defeat against Persepolis – when playing away to Aluminium Arak.
