Parliament tables probe into previous government's forex policy

Iranian lawmakers agreed to conduct an investigation into the previous government's performance on the foreign currency at the exchange rate of 42,000 rial against one US dollar as well as its resources and expenditures.

In a public meeting on Tuesday, Jabbar Kouchakinejad, an Iranian MP, called for an investigation into the previous government's performance in enforcing the law on the provision of basic goods and the allocation of subsidized foreign currency, which was agreed by the lawmakers, ISNA reported.

“People have difficulty in buying basic goods, they have trouble with supplying rice, meat, poultry, and some other goods,” said the parliamentarian.

He added that the subsidized forex damaged domestic production due to the import of some unnecessary goods and baseless method of its allocation.
