Iranian actress Niki Karimi selected for Int’l Crime, Punishment Film Festival jury head

Iranian actress-cum-director Niki Karimi was selected as the jury president of the Golden Scale Feature Film Competition section of the 11th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival in Istanbul, Turkey.

The festival is due to be held from November 26 to December 2, according to IRNA.

The festival aims to use the striking language of art and science to create social discussion on human rights and freedom.

In addition to film screenings, feature films, short film competitions, and academic programs are held. Furthermore, workshops, sector meetings, masterclasses, and a short film project competition are held during festivals VisionIST Industry Days.

Director Pelin Esmer, Turkish actor Mehmet Aslantuğ, Bulgarian filmmaker Mira Staleva, and Ukrainian film critic Bohdan Zhuk are the jury members of the festival.

Born in 1971, Karimi commenced her cinematic activity in 1989, but her most significant debut was made in the film, ‘The Groom,’ directed by well-known Iranian director Behrouz Afkhami in 1990.

Karimi has also served as a jury member for numerous festivals, including the 57th International Antalya Film Festival, the 60th Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain, the 19th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, the 10th Batumi International Art House Film Festival in Georgia, and the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival in India.

Karimi has also written and directed several films, including ‘One Night,’ ‘A Few Days Later,’ ‘Final Whistle,’ ‘Once Upon a Time Football,’ ‘Night Shift’ and ‘Atabay’.
