The enemy camp is, at present, brimming with disappointment, but it is putting a bold face on, said Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) spokesman.
The enemy killed thousands of people in Afghanistan and suffered many casualties; however, it eventually left the country in utter humiliation, added Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif in an address to a ceremony on the Basij Week (November 20-26) marked annually to commemorate the Iranian voluntary forces, IRNA reported.
“They [the enemies] are realistic and know that the continuation of their presence in the region will make them suffer heavier costs. This is the story of the entire Middle East.”
The enemy will soon leave other countries surrounding Iran as its strategy has ended in failure, Brigadier General Sharif said.
The United States in an irresponsible move pulled its forces out of Afghanistan in August. The Taliban, who ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, took power again on August 15, as the US was in the middle of its chaotic troop withdrawal.
Washington is also under increasing pressure by the Iraqi government and people to exit the Arab country as soon as possible.
In remarks on the occasion, he added the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, founded the Basij to ensure peace and security in the country and increase the youths’ role in the process of defending the Islamic Republic.
He said the Iranian people always remember the Basij voluntary force’s sincerity, honesty and valuable efforts during the eight-year (1980-88) Iraqi-imposed war on the country.
As stressed in similar remarks by Imam Khomeini and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, another fate would have been awaiting Iran in the absence of the Basij forces and their sacrifices during the Sacred Defense.
Imam Khomeini founded the Basij force in view of his deep understanding of the country’s firm foundations and performance by the enemies of the Islamic Republic, the IRGC spokesman added.
He noted that in the aftermath of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran over the past two years, the members of the Basij force have played a major role in the fight against the coronavirus.
