Iran’s 10-month crude steel output surpasses 22m tons: WSA

Iranian steelmakers churned out 22.4 million tons of crude steel during the first 10 months of 2021, marking a 5.7 percent drop compared to the corresponding figure for 2020, which was 23.7 million tons.

According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA), Iranian smelters cast 2.2 million tons of crude steel in October, showing a 15.3 percent decrease compared to the figure for the same month of 2020, which was 2.6 million tons.

The association is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world.

WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world’s steel producers, including over 150 steel producers, with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.

China topped the list of crude steel producers in the tenth month of 2021, with an output of 71.6 million tons, while Iran stood at 10th place.

India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey and Brazil and with 9.8 million tons, 8.2 million tons, 7.5 million tons, 6.1 million tons, 5.8 million tons, 3.7 million, 3.5 million tons and 3.2 million tons, respectively, were listed in second to ninth places, the figures showed.

Global steel production in October amounted to 145.7 million tons, showing a 10.6 percent drop compared to the corresponding figure for 2020.

Iran produced over 29 million tons of crude steel in 2020, according to figures released by WSA in January.

Based on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Vision Plan, the country’s total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with export figures expected to reach 10-15 million tons.
