Iran’s Saeed Eskandarzadeh walked away with a gold medal at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Representing the country in the men’s junior 80kg contests, Eskandarzadeh overcame the 140kg and 150kg weights before clinching the top spot with a 162kg lift in his final attempt.

Over 430 male and female athletes will be participating across seniors and juniors contests at the event until December 5.

The competition will serve as a qualification tournament for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Fourteen Iranians, including Tokyo Paralympic medalists Rouhollah Rostami, Hamed Solhipour, and Saman Razi, will be taking part at the event.
