Iran’s seven-month iron ore concentrate production nears 30m tons

Iran produced 29.95 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-October 22), showing a four-percent rise year-on-year.

Also, iron ore concentrate output rose five percent in the seventh month of this Iranian year, compared to the output of the previous year, as the country produced 4.43 million tons of iron ore concentrate during September 23-October 22, according to imidro.gov.ir.

Production of iron ore concentrate in Iran during the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) reached 49.71 million tons, registering a five-percent rise compared to the preceding year.

According to the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry data, of the said figure 3.53 million tons were produced in the last month of the previous Iranian year (February 19-March 20).

The country’s major iron ore concentrate producers produced over 47.3 million tons of the said product in the Iranian year to March 2020.

Iran has envisaged production of 55 million tons of steel per annum by 2025, and to achieve this target the country must extract 160 million tons of iron ore.

In a bid to prevent the exports of unprocessed minerals, creating more added value and meeting the requirements of domestic producers for raw materials, Iran has levied a 25 percent duty on the exports of raw minerals (especially iron ore) since September 2019.
