Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said the northern fleet will receive a Damavand-class destroyer in the near future.

Speaking at a ceremony in the northern city of Rasht on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Irani added the destroyer has been furnished with state-of-the-art equipment and latest technologies have been used to build it, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He added two homegrown military vessels will also join the Iranian Navy’s fleet in the southern waters.

They are dubbed ‘Talaeiyeh’ – a Jamaran-class frigate with helicopter hangars – and a Fateh-class submarine, the commander noted.

He also stressed that despite the bids by the enemies of Iran to prevent the country’s Armed Forces from expanding their international relations, the navy is active beyond the borders and in international waters.

Rear Admiral Irani added that visits by Iranian flotillas to neighboring countries and foreign flotillas to Iran are on the naval force’s agenda.

The visits are aimed at conducting joint military exercises, exchanging experiences and training, conveying the message of peace and friendship and signing MoUs, he said.

On Sunday, a Pakistani fleet comprising three warships arrived in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf for a four-day stay.

The docking of the Pakistani ships in the Iranian port city is aimed at strengthening military and diplomatic relations between Tehran and Islamabad.

It was the second visit by a Pakistan naval fleet to Iran this year.

The naval forces of Iran and Pakistan have in recent years promoted cooperation and staged several joint drills in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman.

Back in April, Iranian naval forces and a visiting flotilla of warships from the Pakistan Navy staged joint exercises in the Persian Gulf, which extended to the Strait of Hormuz and the northern part of the Indian Ocean.
