Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian condoled with his Indian counterpart over the death of India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat in a deadly helicopter crash.
In a message to Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday evening, the Iranian top diplomat offered his condolences to the people and government of India on behalf of the Iranian nation over the sad incident describing it a great loss for India’s military community.
According indiatimes.com, General Rawat, the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces, and 12 others, including his wife, were killed on Wednesday when the Mi-17VH helicopter they were travelling in crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and went up in flames, leaving only one survivor.
It added that India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in a statement that the country’s Air Force has ordered an investigation to find the reason of the incident.
According to the Indian Air Force (IAF) the “tragic accident” took place near the town of Coonoor at noon (06:30 GMT).
