Iranian girls walked away with a couple medals at the Asian Junior Girls Chess Championship.
Melika Mohammadi made a clean sweep of victories after seven rounds of matches to claim win the blitz gold of the competition, organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
In the standard category, Iranian Woman FIDE Master Anousha Mahdian overcame the host’s Dahamdi K M Sanudula in the ninth round to finish in the third place on 5.5 points.
Woman International Master Savitha Shri B of India won the girls’ standard title with seven points, with her compatriot K Priyanka – also a FIDE WIM – finishing as the runner-up, beating Mahdian to the second place on a superior tie-break.
Mohammadi stood fourth in the standard ranking with six points.
Representing Iran in the open contests, Mehdi Gholami settled for a fifth-spot finish with six points.
