Anas Alotaiba, the president of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC), congratulated Hossein Souri after he was reelected as the head of Iran Boxing Federation.
Souri claimed 26 of the votes – against former Olympian Rouhollah Hosseini’s 16 – on Saturday to take the helm in the federation for a second four-year term.
The ASBC’s Emirati chief, in a message on Sunday, hailed Souri’s hard work to promote Iranian boxing in recent years, adding he proved the country is capable of winning medals in major championships, while the federation’s strategic developments and long-term goals “started from the grassroots in Iran.”
“Two of the top Iranian boxers qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games where Daniyal Shahbakhsh and Seyyed Shahin Mousavi could represent the country. The Iranians earned medals at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai in May,” said the message of the country’s achievements over the past year.
“The Iranians earned their first gold medal at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships since the 2017,” while “the team performed well during the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, as the boxers won several tough contests against top opponents,” added the message.
“Shahbakhsh was highly confident in the competition and his outstanding technical skills delivered for him a bronze in the Serbian capital which was Iran’s first ever medal in the history of the event.”
