Iranian female artist Shahrbanoo Arabian won the Craftsperson of the Year Award at the 5th International Craft Awards 2021.
Arabian won the award for making a gaz khori, a handicraft of Isfahan which is used to serve gaz: A sweet from Iran’s central province of Isfahan, IRNA wrote.
She said that it took nearly six months to finish the artwork decorated with minakari (the art of coloring and ornamenting the surface of metals by fusing over it brilliant colors that are decorated in an intricate design).
Arabian noted that she began making various types of handicrafts in her childhood. However, for 10 years she has been working on metals such as copper and silver.
The 5th International Craft Awards 2021 was held in Delhi during Indian Handicrafts Week in honor of the late Ghada Hajavi, president of the World Asia-Pacific Handicrafts Council, said the official with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Vida Tavahodi.
International Craft Awards was launched in 2017 to honor masters, artists, designers, individuals, institutions, councils, organizations, and governments from around the globe for their brilliant contribution to the sustainable and comprehensive development of handicrafts, the official website of the event wrote.
