The Iranian and Russian presidents discussed, among other issues, ways to further promote the already excellent relations between the two countries in the nuclear energy sector and construction of new units at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi made the remark, saying enhancing the two countries’ strategic nuclear cooperation was among the most important topics in the Wednesday meeting between Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, IRNA reported.
Elaborating on the AEOI’s activities in the nuclear energy sector and its cooperation with Russia, Kamalvandi added the organization’s peaceful activities fall into two energy- and non-energy-related categories.
He noted that in both fields, cooperation between Tehran and Moscow reflects a good trend, saying Iran uses radioisotopes for producing radiopharmaceuticals as well as medical, industrial and agricultural purposes.
Kamalvandi added the two countries are currently cooperating in the construction of two units (No. 2 and No. 3) at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant to enable Iran to generate at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity, giving the assurance that the process is continuing according to schedule and with no delay despite the certain problems regarding payment issues.
He expressed hope that in the near future, Iranian and Russian technical groups would increase cooperation and information exchange for the implementation of the new projects in Iran.
The AEOI spokesman put at $5 billion the value of each project at Bushehr plant, saying, thus, Iran-Russia cooperation in this sector comprises a significant part of their economic ties.
