Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi visited the flood-hit areas in the southeastern province of Kerman on Friday immediately after returning from his two-day trip to Russia.

During the visit, Raeisi went to the affected areas and met the people, IRNA reported.

He said to effectively resolve the flooding issue, levees are required to be built.

Praising efforts by the provincial officials to reduce people’s problems and provide rescue and relief services during the recent floods, the president said he had been constantly informed about the latest conditions of the flood-stricken people during his Russia trip.

He stressed that in parallel with implementing short-term measures and providing aid to the victims of the natural disaster, long-term plans are also required to effectively respond to such incidents, saying constructing dikes in the city of Jiroft is among them.

Raeisi gave the assurance that the province’s farmers and ranchers will be compensated for their losses, adding the same will be done for those whose houses have been damaged in the deluge.

Upon arrival in the province, Raeisi was briefed on the latest conditions in the flood-stricken areas by Kerman Governor General Ali Zeinivand.

Over the past few days, the southern and eastern parts of Kerman Province were hit by floods, suffering heavy losses.

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi was in the province on Wednesday and Thursday to monitor the situation.
