Free zones could minimize economic war impacts: Top general

Free zones have considerable capacities for minimizing the impacts of the enemy-imposed economic war on Iran, said the Civil Defense Organization head.

Brigadier General Gholamreza Jalali made the remark in a Saturday meeting with the secretary of Iran's Free Zones High Council, Saeed Mohammad, adding, “To make maximum use of this great capacity, special planning should be placed on agenda,” IRNA reported.

He stressed the importance of having an integrated governance framework in these zones.

Brigadier General Jalali added free zones play a significant role in enabling Iran to use international banks’ capacities, stressing that regional and global economic collaborations are required to be focused on eliminating the dollar from bilateral trade between countries and, instead, using national currencies.

He said the free zones are the country’s gateways for transfer of modern and efficient technologies, noting that they play an effective role in Iran’s development and progress.

Jalali, however, warned that efforts are required to prevent the fee zones from turning into gateways for unofficial imports and smuggling.
