Togo FM: There are many opportunities for cooperation between Lome, Tehran

Togo’s Foreign Minister Robert Dussey said there are many opportunities for cooperation between Lome and Tehran in various fields such as education, the health sector, energy and the economy.

In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran on Tuesday, Dussey expressed his country’s readiness to broaden the economic and trade relations with Iran.

He invited Iranian companies to cooperate with the African country in the implementation of development projects.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian voiced Tehran’s determination to boost relations with African countries in all fields of mutual interest.

Highlighting the capabilities of Iranian companies in the economic, scientific, technological and health sectors, the foreign minister expressed Iran’s readiness for cooperation with Togo in various fields.

The two senior diplomats also agreed on the establishment of a joint working committee, exchange of trade delegations, and possibility of opening of embassies in Tehran and Lome.

The meeting came a day after Dussey held talks with Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi.

The Iranian president expressed Tehran’s support for African nations’ independence, development and welfare.

Describing plans to establish and strengthen relations with the African states as a priority in Iran’s foreign policy, the president said Iran seeks to enhance relations with African countries, including Togo, in all fields.

He said Western powers have mainly sought to colonize and exploit African countries and they are currently pursuing their own wishes and interests in the continent in various forms, Press TV wrote.

He hailed “valuable” efforts by African people to “safeguard their independence” and added, “Their success depends on the emphasis on national and cultural identity and resistance against excessive demands.”

The Iranian president stated, “African countries have the necessary capacities for development and prosperity, and the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the independence, progress and welfare of African people.”
