Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said that military relations between Tehran and Baku will definitely develop, which would lead to the security of both countries.

Baqeri made the comments on the sidelines of a meeting with visiting Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, which took place in Tehran on Tuesday, according to IRNA.

Baqeri said that he explained Iran’s policy for the expansion of relations with its neighbors, especially military and defense ties.

“With the visit of the defense minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iran, the military relations between the two countries will definitely develop significantly, and this will lead to the security of both countries, so that the border between the two countries will be the border of peace and friendship, and the development of trade,” the Iranian top general said.

During the meeting, Baqeri said the presence of the Israeli regime is the root cause of discord in the region and poses a threat to the security and stability of all regional countries.

Baqeri expressed hope that the visit by the Azerbaijani defense minister would prepare an appropriate opportunity for both sides to strengthen defense, technical and military cooperation.

He stressed the importance of more consultations between the Iranian and Azerbaijani officials to prevent misunderstandings, adding, “Our principled stance is to solve issues in the region by regional countries without any foreign interference.”

The top commander said the territorial integrity of all countries must be respected and that Iran is sensitive about the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani minister, for his part, told reporters that during the meeting, “We talked about important issues”.

“Also in this meeting, we conveyed the message of the president of Azerbaijan to the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, and underlined that we are determined in the expansion of bilateral relations,” he said.
