Raeisi: Iran may consider direct talks only after US removes all sanctions

National Desk

During a live television interview on Tuesday, January 25, Raeisi reacted to statements made by a US State Department official, who recently said that Washington was “prepared to meet directly” with Iranian officials.

In response, Raeisi made it clear that the US must “first remove the sanctions that they have imposed on the Iranian nation and then speak of negotiations.”

After reaching nuclear deal in 2015, the US under former president Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal, reimposing sanctions on Iran.

“In turn, Iran may only consider direct negotiations when the sanctions are removed,” Raeisi added. This is the latest statement made by highest Iranian officials regarding the ongoing talks in Vienna.
