Normalization with Israel to add to regional problems: Raeisi

Some Arab nations’ normalization with Israel will create more problems for the region, President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi warned on Tuesday as he met the new Palestinian ambassador in Tehran.

“The move by certain Arab states to establish relations with the Zionist regime will not bring protection and security to them,” Raeisi told Palestinian envoy Salam Zawawi after receiving her credentials.

“Rather it will double the problems of these states and add to the problems of the region and Arab countries,” he added.

The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain normalized diplomatic ties with Israel in 2020 under US-brokered deals known as the Abraham Accords. Morocco and Sudan also followed suit.

Raeisi said public protest of all Palestinian people and groups indicated that “the betrayal act” was rejected and condemned.

He noted that those states dealt a blow to the Palestinian cause by “relying on weak treaties” and “becoming involved in the West’s political games”.

“The issue of Palestine must be the top priority of all Muslim nations,” the president pointed out.

Raeisi said Iran is “the true supporter” of the Palestinian nation and the liberation of Al-Quds.

Zawawi slammed the Arab states that “rushed” to normalize ties with Israel, saying they “turned their back” on the Palestinian cause and “ignored the rights of the Palestinian people and the existing resolutions in this regard.

She hailed Iran’s “sincere support” for Palestine, hoping that with the creation of an independent Palestinian state, Muslims would be able to take part in congregational prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the leadership of Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
