Iran reports 227 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours

Iran’s Health Ministry on Wednesday reported 227 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 135,726.

In the same period, 15,340 cases of infection were detected across the country, 2,333 of whom were hospitalized, according to IRNA.

With the latest tally, 6,998,975 people have so far contracted the respiratory disease since the coronavirus first showed up in Iran in February 2020.

The Health Ministry also announced that 62,640,464 Iranians have received the first dose, and 55,262,698 people have so far received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Moreover, 22,617,635 people have also received the third, booster shot.

Officials say many of the hospitalized patients are those who have not been vaccinated, including children.

Across Iran, 337 cities have been classified as ‘red’ in the country’s color-coded coronavirus map.
