Serie A giant Milan could end pursuit of Porto striker Mehdi Taremi after the Portuguese club asked for 20 million euros for its Iranian asset, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Italian website Calciomercato first reported last week that the Rossoneri consider the Iranian international as a perfect replacement for aging striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been dealing with injuries throughout the season.

However, technical director of the seven-time European champion Paolo Maldini sees Portos asking figure too high for a 29-year-old player, whose contract runs until June 2024.

The Iranian has been in flying form this season, bagging 18 goals – coupled with 16 assists – in 40 appearances for the Dragoes across all competitions, helping them sit atop the Portuguese league table – six points clear of Sporting CP.

Taremi delivered a man-of-the-match performance last October, providing then-teammate Luis Diaz with an assist, as Porto beat Milan 1-0 in the Champions League group stage at home.

Milan is chasing a 19th Serie A title – first since 2011 – this season, though an untimely goalless draw at home against Bologna on Monday saw its lead over second-placed Napoli reduce to a single point, with Inter in third, trailing a four-point deficit on top with a game in hand.
