Bijan Moqanlou was appointed as the new head coach of Iran mens taekwondo national team.

The Technical Committee of Iran Taekwondo Federation made the announcement after a meeting on Sunday, during which Omid-Ali Mohammad Beshaq was named the coach of the countrys under-23 team.

Moqanlou, 53, a former Asian gold medalist and a world bronze winner in 1995, will take over from Fariborz Asgari, who endured a disappointing campaign with the country at the Tokyo Olympics last year as both Armin Hadipour and Mir-Hashem Hosseini were knocked out in the quarterfinals.

This will be a second spell for Moqanlou as Irans coach after he steered the country at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Meanwhile, Minou Maddah was appointed as the head coach of the countrys womens team, with Mahrou Komrani, Neda Zare, and Mahrouz Saei as her technical staff.

Both head coaches will be in charge until the end of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in September, with the Iranian federation deciding on their futures based on the results at the Games.
